Aquascaping is an exhibition by Javier Galera (powered by Katharsis 83) that documents how people use and inhabit public water spaces — with a focus on Shadwell Basin in East London. Drawing from his upbringing in Ibiza and a lifelong connection to nature, Galera refers to these sites as reefs — informal environments where human presence and aquatic landscapes intersect. These reefs happen in various places, in this instance, an urban setting. For many, these moments reflect a kind of everyday catharsis — a way to disconnect, reset, and reclaim public space.
